The postseason is the time in sport after the usual season has finished — the extra weeks when the best teams keep playing to see who wins the title. American English loves the word: baseball, basketball, and American football all have a postseason. You can use it as a noun (they made the postseason) or as an adjective (a postseason game). The games in that stretch are often called the playoffs; the postseason is that whole after-season time, which is mostly those games. You may see a : post-season. British English says this less; people there often just say the play-offs. Though actually, it is not the off-season. The off-season is when the sport has stopped and nobody is playing. The postseason is still sport, still serious, still on TV.
