    Postpaid, about mail, means the postage is already paid, so the person who receives the letter or parcel does not have to pay to take it. A reply envelope marked postpaid is a kindness: you can send it back without buying a stamp. You can use it as an adjective (a postpaid envelope) or as an adverb (send it postpaid). It does not mean the thing inside is free; it only means the sending cost has been settled. In older ads and office English it is at home; in casual talk people more often say ‘postage paid.’ Though actually the same spelling shows up on phone plans, where postpaid means you pay after you use the service, not before — that is a different job for the same shape of word. This entry is the mail one: already paid to send.
