    In computers, porting means moving a program so it can run on a different kind of machine. You might port a game from one phone system to another, or from a computer to a games console. Programmers say “we ported it” or “this is a port of the old game.” It is work talk, not dinner-table talk. You do not just copy the files across; you usually have to change some of the code, because the new system works a bit differently. The older idea behind the word is “to carry” — you carry the software over. Same spelling as a sea port or a USB port, but this job is different.
