Pompously is how someone speaks or acts when they are being : slowly, formally, with big words, as if the room should be impressed. It is the adverb that belongs with . We use it with the same cool feeling — we are not praising them. A person may walk pompously, smile pompously, or announce something pompously. Though actually the extra -ly does not change the idea; it only tells you this is about the manner, not the kind of person.
