Polarity is having two sides that are completely opposite from each other, like the north and south ends of a magnet. Scientists use it for things like electric charge (positive or negative). But you'll also hear it in everyday talk about people or opinions - 'political polarity' means people have split into two strongly opposite groups, with not much middle ground left.
