Poignantly means in a poignant way: so as to make that sharp, tender sadness rise up. Someone may smile poignantly — the smile is real, but it carries goodbye, or a pain they are trying not to show. A place can sit poignantly quiet after people have left. It is an adverb, so it tells you how something is done or how it feels, not what kind of thing it is. You will see it in careful writing more than in quick talk. Though actually, it is not a fancy word for "very" or "clearly". If there is no sad or touching feeling in the moment, poignantly is the wrong tool; you probably want clearly, sadly, or simply very.
