The Poconos are a group of mountains in eastern Pennsylvania, in the United States. They belong to the much larger Appalachian range. Americans, especially people from New York City and New Jersey, often go there to get out of the city for a short holiday — a cabin, a lake, a weekend in the woods. For a long time the area was famous for honeymoons, with big resort hotels. People almost always say the Poconos, the way they say the Alps: it is treated as one place with a plural-sounding name, not as a word you build yourself. You will meet it in American travel talk, stories, and news, not as a common noun for mountains in general.
組成The name is said to come from Munsee pokawachne, “creek between two hills.”
