If someone is plucky, they are brave and they keep going, even when they are small or the job looks too big. Newspapers love this word for the side nobody expects to win — a plucky little team that almost beat the champions, a plucky child who spoke up. It praises nerve, not size or power. Though actually, it can sound a little from above, as if the writer is patting someone on the head: how brave, for someone so small. You see it far more in papers, especially British ones, than in everyday talk. Young people do not walk around calling their friends plucky. It is a warm word, but a bit old-fashioned, and it almost always describes people or groups, not things.
組成pluck (nerve; the courage to keep going) + -y (makes an adjective: “full of that”).
