PlayStation is Sony’s home games console: a special box you connect to a TV (or play , on later models) to play video games. People almost always say the brand name, or it to PS, then a number for the generation — PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, PS5. It is a proper name, so it keeps the capital P and S. Talk about it is informal and everywhere: kids, teenagers, and plenty of adults. You buy a PlayStation, play on a PlayStation, get a game for PlayStation. It is not a PC and not an Xbox (that is Microsoft’s rival). The word was coined by Sony; it is not an old English word that just happens to mean this.
組成play + station; a brand name coined by Sony Interactive Entertainment, not an ordinary compound that grew by itself.
