A playboy is a rich man who does not really need to work, and who spends his time enjoying himself — parties, beautiful women, fast cars, expensive holidays. People still know the word because of Playboy magazine, which made this type of man famous. It can sound a little mocking, as if he is charming but not serious. It is about money and show as much as about women. Though actually, a playboy is not quite the same as a or a player: a playboy is rich and public; a is about skill with women, money or not.
