A playbook was originally a book, used in American football, that has drawings of all the planned moves ('plays') a team can use in a game. Now people also use 'playbook' more generally, especially in business or , to mean a set of usual strategies someone relies on — for example, 'they used the same old playbook' means they used the same familiar tricks or plans as before.
