Plaudits are praise and warm admiration, the kind you get when people think you did something well. The word is almost always plural in ordinary writing: we say someone “won plaudits,” not “won a plaudit.” It belongs to newspapers, reviews, and slightly formal speech more than to the playground. A film may win plaudits from critics; a mayor may earn plaudits for a new plan. It is close to praise, and it sits near applause, but it does not have to mean actual . Kind words, good reviews, or public respect are enough. It feels a little pleased with itself and a little old-fashioned. If you just want a simple word, praise will do the same job.
組成This comes from Latin for clapping. At the end of a Roman play someone would call plaudite, meaning “clap now.” English kept the idea of praise, not only the sound of hands.
