A plateau is a large area of flat land that sits higher than the land around it, like a raised table of rock and earth. People also use 'plateau' for a moment when progress just stops - you were , and then suddenly you stay at the same level for a while, whether that's your weight when dieting, your skill when learning a language, or a company's sales. Reaching a plateau isn't necessarily bad, but it can feel because nothing seems to be moving forward.
