A pizzeria is a restaurant whose main job is pizza. You go there to eat pizza, not just to pick one up and leave — though actually many pizzerias do both sit-down meals and takeaway, and some are tiny counters with ovens in the back. The word feels a little Italian and a little casual; people say it the way they say café, as the ordinary name of the place. In the US you also hear pizza parlor or pizza place, which mean the same kind of shop; pizzeria is the one that still sounds like it came from Italy. It is not a fancy-food word. A neighbourhood pizzeria can be cheap, noisy, and open late. You would not usually call a fine restaurant a pizzeria just because pizza is on the menu — the place has to be built around pizza.
