1. 1

Pinochle is an American card game. It uses a special pack with two copies of the cards from nine up to ace — forty-eight cards in all. Players score in two ways: by putting down special sets of cards, and by winning rounds. It was especially loved in German-American families and among older players; you still hear it around kitchen tables more than in young people’s games. The name is usually said PIN-uh-kul. It probably comes from a German game called Binokel — in some southern German speech a b-sound comes out more like p — and that name is tied to French binocle, the old word for glasses that pinch the nose, and to a related card game. “Probably” is doing real work here: the path is not certain.

組成Perhaps from an Austro-Bavarian way of saying German Binokel (a b-sound often comes out like p there), from French binocle, “pince-nez / nose-pinching glasses,” also the name of a related card game.
