A pigtail is hair twisted or plaited so it hangs in a rope, like a pig’s curly tail. You can have one down the back, or two, one on each side. Though actually, speakers do not all mean the same thing. In a lot of American English, pigtails — nearly always the plural — means two bunches of hair, one over each ear, and those bunches are sometimes not even plaited, just tied. In British English, a pigtail is more often a real plait. The word can also be a verb: to pigtail hair is to twist or plait it that way. It is an everyday, slightly playful word, used more for children than for formal adult hair. A is different: hair gathered in one bunch, not twisted into a plait.
辮子;兩側的小辮也常直接叫 pigtails。別和馬尾(ponytail)搞混:馬尾是紮一束,辮子才是編起來的。
