Pigmentation is the colour that living things already have — the brown, pink, black, yellow, or green in skin, hair, feathers, scales, and leaves. It comes from tiny colour-making stuff in the body called pigment. We meet the word most in talk about skin and hair: more pigmentation can make skin darker; less can make it lighter. Doctors also use it when colour changes — extra pigmentation can leave a dark patch; too little can leave a pale one. Though actually, in shops and clinics people often say “pigmentation” when they mean a problem, like a spot or a stain, but the word itself is just the colour living things have, not the trouble. Plants have pigmentation too; that is why a leaf looks green. It is a fairly formal, science-y word. At home you would more often say colour or skin colour.
組成pigment (the colouring stuff) + -ation (the act or the result). So pigmentation is the colouring that pigment gives.
