    Pickings are money or other gains you can take from a situation, often easily, because you are in the right place at the right time. Easy pickings means the taking is simple — maybe too simple, a little greedy. Slim pickings means there is almost nothing left worth taking. Rich pickings means there is a lot. The word is nearly always plural. It can sound slightly , as if someone is scooping up what was lying around. Though actually, it is not always dirty money: people also use it when a job, a market, or a story has a lot to work with. Informal, and a bit knowing.
