In a Spanish , a picador is the man on the horse. He carries a long spear. He rides close to the bull and sticks the spear into the bull's neck and shoulders. This tires the bull and makes its head hang lower, so the next part of the fight is easier for the man on foot. The work is violent, and many people today feel is cruel; the English word still belongs to that old show. It is a specialist word, not everyday talk. You will meet it in writing about Spain, or in history and travel books, not in the shops.
