A chemical element, symbol P. The famous classroom form is a yellowish, stuff that is poisonous, can catch fire in the air, and can glow in the dark — which is why its name means “light-bearer”. Matches used to need it; today the safer red form is what sits on a strike-strip. The same element is also in DNA, in bones, and in plant food, so it is both a scary demo and something your body cannot live without. Though actually, that famous glow is not : it is phosphorus reacting with air. In old poetry, Phosphorus was also a name for the morning star.
