A Pharaoh was a ruler of ancient Egypt — the king (and, in a few cases, the queen who held that same high office). People say “the Pharaoh” the way they say “the king”: it is a title, not one person’s private name. Though actually, the word first meant the palace, the “great house,” and only later the person who lived in it. We still often capitalise it when we mean the office. In loose talk, someone may call a very powerful boss “a pharaoh,” stretching the old title; that is and a bit sharp, not the history-class sense. In school English, keep it for ancient Egypt.
