If something is permissible, the law or the rules say you may do it. It does not mean the thing is kind, wise, or nice — only that it is allowed. A school might say phones are not permissible in class. In a contract, only certain changes are permissible. This is a rather formal, written word; at home a parent would more often say “you’re allowed” or “that’s OK.” Though actually, students mix this with , which sounds almost the same but means something else: is about being too soft, not about what the rulebook allows.
