If a material is permeable, water, gas, or other stuff can pass through it. A cotton shirt is permeable to air and sweat; a good is made so that it is not. Soil can be permeable, which is why a garden drinks rain, or hardly permeable, which is why a just sits there. You will hear this more in science class than in chat. Though actually, writers also call a border or a rule “permeable” when things leak across it — but the home meaning is still physical: stuff can get through.
組成From Middle English permeable, from Latin permeābilis: per- (“through”) + meāre (“to go, to pass”) + -bilis (“able to”).
