1. 1

Perkily tells you how someone does a thing: in a bright, sure, slightly bouncy way. They speak perkily, walk perkily, hop perkily. It is the adverb from perky, and it is informal — a little cute, a little old-fashioned, more at home in a story than in a meeting. It can be kind, or it can tease: the speaker notices the cheer and perhaps finds it a bit much. Birds, children, and people who have just cheered up are the usual subjects. Young people do not reach for this word as often as older books do.
