Peripheral describes something at the edge of a main area, rather than at its center or core. "Peripheral vision" is what you can see at the sides of your eyes, without looking directly at it. A "peripheral issue" is a less important side point in a discussion, not the main topic. In computers, "peripherals" (as a noun) are the equipment connected to a computer but not the computer itself, like a keyboard, mouse, or printer.
