Percussive describes a sound or a way of playing that hits, like a drum. A percussive guitar style means the player slaps or knocks the body of the guitar so it sounds like drums as well as strings. A percussive noise is short and sharp — a tap, a bang, a stamp. Musicians use this word a lot. In ordinary talk you might just say “like a drum” or “a hitting sound.” Though actually, percussion is the family of instruments you strike (drums, ); percussive is the adjective for that kind of sound or feel, not the name of the drum itself.
