The penis is the outer sex organ of men and of male animals. It is used for sex, and waste water (urine) also leaves the body through it. This is the calm, standard word in medicine, biology, and careful English. Families sometimes use a softer child's word at home. Rude English has many other words; some of them will get you into trouble in class. Though actually, English did not always use this word. It was taken from Latin in the late 1600s as a school-and-doctor word, and it slowly pushed older English words out of polite talk. Teachers and doctors prefer penis because you can name the body part without joking or whispering. By itself it is not a dirty word. In a biology class it is ordinary. Said as a loud joke, it can still make people uncomfortable.
組成Learned borrowing from Latin pēnis, first seen in English in the late 17th century. It is a doublet of pencil. It replaced older native English words such as pintle.
