In old Greek stories, Penelope is the wife of . He leaves home to fight in the War, and then he cannot get back for more than twenty years. While he is away, many men want to marry her and take his house. She does not marry them. She also does not throw them out in a simple way. She uses a clever trick: she says she will choose a husband when she finishes weaving a burial cloth for her husband's father. Every day she weaves; every night she secretly pulls the work out, so the cloth is never finished. People remember her as a wife who stays true for a very long time. Though actually, the story is also about being patient and smart, not only about love. Today Penelope is also a girl's name in English, often to Penny. In a story class, the name almost always means this woman.
組成From Ancient Greek Πηνελόπη (Pēnelópē). It may come from πηνέλοψ (pēnélops), a word for a kind of duck — but that is only a possibility, not a sure fact.
