A pejorative word or expression is one you use to show , or to insult. It puts a person, a group, or a thing down. The dictionary meaning of a word and a pejorative use are not always the same. A fairly neutral word can become pejorative in a certain mouth, a certain time, a certain group. 'Cheap' can just mean low in price — or, pejorative, it can mean nasty and low-quality. Teachers and linguists use pejorative as a careful, rather formal label; in daily talk people say 'that's an insult' or 'that's a rude way to put it'. You will see it in essays more than in chat. It can also be a noun: 'that word is a pejorative' means it is a put-down name. Though actually, calling a word pejorative is already a judgement about how it is being used, not only about spelling.
組成From Late Latin peiōrātus, 'worsened' (past of peiōrāre, 'to worsen', from Latin peior, 'worse') + -ive. French has péjoratif with the same idea. By surface analysis: pejorate + -ive.
