Peerless means better than any other — so good that nobody else comes close. A peerless singer, a peerless performance, a peerless piece of work. It is a high, slightly literary adjective. Reviews, speeches, and advertising like it; friends in a café almost never say it. They would say the best, unmatched, or there’s no one like her. Though actually, the picture inside the word is “without a peer”: a peer here is an equal, someone of the same standing, not the verb to peer. So peerless is “having no equal”, not “unable to look”. Used too often, it starts to sound like a poster rather than a real judgement.
