A peccary is a wild animal that looks rather like a pig. It lives in the forests of Central and South America, usually in groups, and eats plants, roots, and whatever it can find. It is not a farm pig, and it is not the wild boar of Europe or Asia, though people who see one often say “it looks like a small pig.” There are a few kinds; the collared peccary is the one people name most often.
