PDQ means right now, or as fast as you can. People say it when they want someone to move, finish, or bring something immediately. The letters stand for pretty damn quick; some speakers say pretty darn quick if they want to sound a little milder. It is informal, a bit impatient, and often slightly jokey — the sort of snap a parent or a boss might use: 'I need that PDQ.' It belongs in speech and in casual notes, not in a polite letter or a school essay. Younger people more often say ASAP, or just now. Though actually many speakers still like PDQ because it has a little bite; it tells you the speaker is not willing to wait.
