A payoff is the good result or reward you finally get after working hard for a long time — 'the payoff of years of training' is winning the competition. It can also mean money paid secretly and to get someone to do something, like a bribe. In stories or jokes, the payoff is the final part that everything was building up to.
(努力後得到的)成果、回報;(也指非法的)賄款;(故事或笑話的)結局、笑點
組成pay + off — the sense of 'paying something off completely', which grew into 'the final reward'.
