PAYE stands for Pay As You Earn. It is a tax system, especially in Britain and some other countries, where tax is taken out of a worker's wages before the worker sees the money, and the employer sends that tax straight to the government. You do not get a big pile of pay and then remember to pay income tax later. Your payslip already shows money gone to tax, and often to national insurance too. The idea is the same kind of thing as Taiwan's 就源扣繳, but the letters PAYE are a British label. You will meet them in UK job ads, UK payslips, and UK tax talk, not on a Taiwanese 薪資單. The United States usually says withholding instead. It is official language, said as four letters, not as a word that rhymes with pay. Though actually people still mix it up with payee — a completely different word meaning the person who receives money.
