    Pasteboard is stiff, flat board made by sticking sheet after sheet of paper together until the whole thing is thick and hard — a cheap kind of cardboard. People cut it for models, box lids, backing for pictures, and old signs. The word is a little old; in everyday talk most people just say cardboard. You can also use it like an adjective: a pasteboard box. Though actually, when someone calls a suitcase or a smile “pasteboard,” they often mean it feels light, cheap, or not quite real — as if it were only paper stuck together.
