A pashmina is a very soft piece of cloth, usually worn by women around the shoulders like a light shawl. It is thin but warm, and people prize it because it feels finer than an ordinary scarf. You will hear the word in shops and fashion talk more than in school English. Though actually, the name has stretched: many things sold as “pashminas” are just pretty , not the rare, very fine goat wool the word first pointed to. Men can wear one too, but the picture most people have is a woman wrapping it around her on a cool evening.
