A parsonage is the house where a parson lives — the official home that belongs with the job, usually next to or near the church. The church or the parish provides it; it is not simply ‘any house a priest happens to rent’. The word is a little old and churchy, like parson itself. In some churches people now say vicarage, rectory, or manse, depending on the minister’s title and the tradition. You can still use parsonage in a general way for that kind of church house. It is a building, not a person. A large old parsonage might have a garden and extra rooms for visitors; a small one might be only a modest house beside the churchyard.
