A parodist is a person who copies a song, a book, a film, or even a famous person’s way of talking — but copies it so that people laugh. They keep the shape of the original (the tune, the style, the big lines) and twist the meaning. The joke only works if the audience already knows the thing being copied. Though actually, a parodist is not simply “anyone funny,” and is not the same as a satirist: a satirist attacks something in the real world; a parodist plays with a text or a style. One person can be both. This word is a noun for the person. The making, and the piece they make, are parody; the verb is to parody, not to parodist.
