If the sun or a dry wind parches something, it takes the water out until that thing is very dry — soil that cracks, grass that turns stiff, lips or earth that feel lifeless. The verb is a little more at home in writing and weather talk than in chat. People also stretch it to the body: I’m parched means “I am extremely thirsty,” and that use is everyday and a bit informal. You parch land or a throat in this “no water left” way; you do not parch a towel on a line (that is just dry), and parch is not the same as burn. Scorch is heat that browns or burns; parch is heat or wind that dries.

組成From Middle English parchen, paarchen (“to parch, dry, or roast”). The origin is uncertain. It may be a variant of Middle English perchen (“to roast”). That is as far as we can honestly go.
