A parameter is a fixed limit that sets how something may be done — the rails you have to stay between. A teacher might give you parameters for a project: length, due day, and what you must not copy. A company sets parameters for a budget or a safety rule.
A parameter限定條件 is a fixed limit指的是一個固定的限制 that sets how something may be done訂出一件事可以怎麼做——the rails you have to stay between就像你得待在裡面的軌道。A teacher老師 might give you parameters for a project可能會給你一份作業的限定條件:length字數長度、due day繳交日期、and what you must not copy還有不可以抄襲的部分。A company公司 sets parameters for訂出……的限定條件 a budget or a safety rule一項預算或一條安全規定。
You nearly always hear it in the plural, parameters, meaning “the limits / the conditions.” That is the everyday sense, and it is a little formal; in chat people just say limits, rules, or “how far we can go.” Though actually, in maths and science the same word is a bit different: a parameter is a value that defines a system (you choose it, then the rest follows), not a fence around behaviour.
You幾乎 nearly always hear it in the plural總是聽到複數形 parameters, meaning意思是 “the limits / the conditions.”「限制/條件」。That這 is the everyday sense是日常的用法,and it is a little formal而且有點正式;in chat在聊天時 people just say大家就直接說 limits, rules, or “how far we can go.”限制、規則,或「我們能做到什麼程度」。Though actually不過事實上,in maths and science在數學和科學裡 the same word is a bit different同一個字有點不一樣:a parameter參數 is a value that defines a system指的是決定一個系統的數值(you choose it, then the rest follows你先選定它,其他部分就跟著走),not a fence around behaviour而不是圍住行為的一道籬笆。
Office English borrowed the maths word and stretched it into “the box we have to work in.” Do not mix it up with perimeter, which is the distance around the edge of a shape — they only look like cousins.
Office English辦公室英文 borrowed the maths word借用了這個數學用字,and stretched it into把它延伸成 “the box we have to work in.”「我們必須在裡面做事的那個框框」。Do not mix it up with不要跟……搞混 perimeter「周長」,which is the distance around the edge of a shape那是一個形狀邊緣一圈的長度——they only look like cousins它們只是看起來像親戚而已。
