Pap has a couple of different everyday meanings, and both are a little informal. First, pap is soft, bland, mushy food — the kind of food you might give a baby or a sick person who can't chew much. Second, in British newspaper slang, "pap" is a short, word for content with no real value — silly gossip or entertainment news that isn't taken seriously ("that magazine is full of pap"). In the same British slang world, "a pap" can also mean a paparazzo — a photographer who chases celebrities for photos.
