Pantyhose are the very thin, close-fitting leg covering that many women wear under a dress or skirt. They are made of fine nylon and they come as one piece: the two legs and the part covering the hips and waist are all joined, so there is nothing to hold up and nothing to see at the top. They may be nearly invisible, or coloured, or black and thicker.

It is a plain, practical word — not rude, not delicate — though like all clothing words close to the body it is used more among women.
It is a plain, practical word這是個平實、實用的字 not rude, not delicate不粗俗,也不做作 though like all clothing words close to the body不過就像所有貼身衣物相關的字一樣 it is used more matter-of-factly among women女生之間講起來會更直接、平常心
組成panty + hose. "Panty" is the small underwear covering the hips — here it names the top part, the piece that goes up over the hips instead of stopping at the thigh. "Hose" is an old word for leg coverings, stockings; it survives now mostly inside words like this one and in "hosiery", the shop word for socks and stockings.
