A paediatrician is a doctor whose patients are children, from newborns up to teenagers. They check growth, give vaccines, treat childhood illness, and send a child to another specialist when the problem is not in their area. In a hospital you may hear “call the paediatrician”, meaning the children’s doctor on duty. It is a straightforward job title, a little formal but not fancy. British spelling paediatrician; American pediatrician. Though actually, parents often just say “the children’s doctor” or, in Taiwan, the 小兒科醫師, which is the same person.
