Paddington is a big railway station in the western part of central London. Trains leave from there for the west and southwest of England, and for South Wales. People say Paddington the way they say the name of a main station: it is the stop, not a kind of train. The name is older than the station. It was first the name of a settlement, and the station took the name of the area. Though actually, around the world many students meet Paddington first as Paddington Bear, the storybook bear in a blue coat and a hat. In the story the bear is found at this station, and that is why he has the name. So Paddington is a real place you can stand in, and the bear is how the name became famous. Visitors also use Paddington as the London end of the Heathrow Express to the airport — still the same station, not a second meaning.
