1. 1

p.a. is a written short form of per annum, Latin for “for each year.” You see it after money, especially in British writing: a salary of £30,000 p.a., or interest at 5% p.a. It tells you the figure is for a whole year, not for a month or a week. People almost never say “p.a.” out loud; they say “a year” or “per year.” It belongs in ads, contracts, and formal notices, not in chat.
