In writing, oz is the short form of ounce or ounces, a small unit of weight (about 28 grams). Food labels and recipes use it all the time in the US and UK: a 12 oz steak, 2 oz of cheese. You almost never say the letters out loud; you read “8 oz” as “eight ounces.” There is also fl oz for fluid ounces, which measure liquid, not how heavy something is — and people do mix those two up. This little oz is only the weight word.
