Oxon is a short written label you put after a university degree to show it came from Oxford. Jane Lee, BA (Oxon) means her bachelor’s degree is from Oxford University; MA (Oxon) means a master’s from Oxford. It is Latin shorthand, not a word people say out loud in ordinary talk — you read it on a card, a CV, or the end of a letter; you almost never hear someone say “ox-on.” British newspapers and old-fashioned signatures use it. It is not a shortening of the English letters in Oxford; it is the old Latin name cut down.
