Oxbridge is not a third university and not a town on the map. It is a blend of Oxford and Cambridge, Britain’s two oldest and most famous universities, used when people talk about them as one world. If someone “went to Oxbridge,” they studied at one of those two. The word often carries extra colour: old colleges, hard exams, and a kind of club that still opens doors in British public life. Newspapers talk about “Oxbridge graduates” as a group. It can sound or a little sour, depending on who says it — some people use it to praise brains and tradition; others use it to complain that Britain still listens too much to a small set of colleges. It is mainly a British word, and it takes a capital letter because it is built from two names.
