If something is oversized, it is bigger than the usual size — sometimes large on purpose, sometimes simply too big. Clothes called oversized are made loose on purpose: the shirt hangs off your shoulders, and that is the look people want. A bag or a box that is oversized may be too big for the plane, the locker, or the rules. People also stretch it: an oversized meal, an oversized car, an oversized personality — more than you need, or too much. In shops it can be a size label, next to small, medium, and large. Though actually, "oversized" and "too big" are not always the same. A fashion oversized coat can be exactly the size you wanted; a suitcase that is oversized at the airport is a problem. You will also see oversize without the -d; many people use both.
