An oversimplification is a description that is too simple and leaves out facts that actually matter. Simplification is making something easier to explain by taking away extra detail. That can be kind, and teachers do it on purpose. Oversimplification is doing it so hard that the easy story is no longer true, and people then make a wrong picture from the short version. Teachers, news, and arguments use this word a lot: “That's an oversimplification.” It is a criticism, usually polite but sharp. Though actually, every explanation for a beginner leaves something out. The question is whether the missing piece changes the meaning. If it does, you have an oversimplification. The usual verb is ; this word is the noun for that too-simple picture.
